In Harmony is proud to offer group programming that is innovative, engaging, and prescriptively designed to meet the needs of all group members with emphasis on building rapport and relationships, community engagement, group cohesion, and the social skills to develop social harmony!
Group-based music therapy supports:
- Improved group cohesion (e.g. tolerance of differences, working together on a group goal)
- Improved self-regulation (e.g. appropriate waiting, slowing
- Improved social skills (e.g. turn-taking, joint attention, conversations, tolerance of others, etc.)
- Improved self-esteem and mood
- Improved understanding of character traits (e.g. respect, perseverance, integrity, citizenship)
- Improved relaxation
In Harmony provides:
- An initial consultation with parents/caregivers, administrators, and/or related service providers
- A group music therapy assessment, which determines treatment plan(s), goals, and objectives
- Engaging age appropriate sessions using the interests and music preferences of participants
- Evidenced-based and best practice music interventions such as lyric analysis, song writing, improvisation, group singing, group music play, ensemble development,
- Recommendations for further treatment
Once treatment needs are determined, the music therapist can then:
- Provide music therapy services in individual or group settings
- Target group goals
- Co-treat with related therapies
- Chart the group’s progress
- Assist with mainstreaming and inclusion
- Assist with generalization of skills
Within a group therapy delivery model, music therapists work directly with administration and teachers to create custom programming or implement one of our pre-created residency programs which align with Ohio’s educational and social emotional standards. In addition, music therapists can co-treat with related service providers and complementary therapies in addition to provide consultation and professional development related to mainstreaming and inclusion.
