Message from the Executive Director & Founder: Five and Thriving

In fiscal year 2023, In Harmony Therapeutic Services turned five years old! We are so proud of everything we’ve been able to accomplish in such a short time. Over these five incredible years, our dedication to providing high-quality, accessible music therapy while also advancing the field has led to remarkable achievements. We are delighted to share that our revenue has skyrocketed, experiencing an astounding 487% increase over five years. Even more heartening is the fact that we have increased the number of people served by 3324% – providing services to 8,562 individuals in fiscal year 2023 as compared to 250 individuals in fiscal year 2019 – underscoring our commitment to making a meaningful impact in our community. We owe this tremendous success to our dedicated team, passionate supporters, and the countless lives we’ve had the privilege to touch.

Fiscal year 2023 also saw updates to the organization’s mission, vision, and values statements as we reaffirmed our commitment to the work we do in our community. You can read more about these updates here.

We are pleased to report that in fiscal year 2023, we launched a university-affiliate internship program in collaboration with Baldwin Wallace University and the Cleveland Music Therapy Consortium. Thanks to our extremely generous supporters, we were able to offer a PAID internship (one of only a few in the state of Ohio) which began in January 2023. We are thrilled to announce that our intern, Veronica McMurray, will be taking their certification exam in early December and will then be joining the team at In Harmony as a full-time Clinical Music Therapist!

We also had several programming highlights during the 2023 fiscal year. Thanks to the generous support of the Ohio Arts Council, In Harmony solidified a partnership with Cuyahoga County Public Library in providing free literacy-based music enrichment programming through our Rock’n Read program to branches across Cuyahoga County for the next two years! Additionally, The Cleveland Foundation supported In Harmony’s commitment to the advancement of the field of music therapy by helping Executive Director & Founder Alicia Bousner Hrubey’s work as the Co-Chair the Ohio Music Therapy Task Force and the work toward building the infrastructure of licensure regulations for Ohio Music Therapists. Cuyahoga Arts & Culture is supporting our work in providing weekly music therapy sessions to both Women’s Recovery Center and The LCADA Way of Middleburg Heights.

In our community, In Harmony is now collaborating with two new community partners, providing music therapy services through Lorain County Children’s Services and Colors+ Youth Center.

We remain eternally grateful to everyone who has supported our work over the past five years. Our success and our impact is because of you. Thank you.
